Leading change? We have yet to meet the leader whose remit is to make sure everything stays exactly the same. And a good job too; organisations are living systems and they change all the time. Leadership is all about working effectively with change.
In Leading Change John Kotter states, 'The single biggest error in the traditional model is [that it] takes leadership skills as a divine gift of birth, a gift granted to a small number of people.'
We equip leaders to tell a compelling and truthful story about change, to be fully effective in their sponsorship role and to properly support their people. Leaders skilled in managing change understand how to deliver the current change and create enhanced capability for the future.
Every change has its own dynamics and every leader is an individual, so our work is tailored to the situation. In our coaching and consulting work with change leaders at all levels of organisational authority, we have successfully supported people to:
Connect strategy to operations
Delineate signal and noise, and communicate effectively around that difference, for clarity and focus
Ensure that communication, learning, and reward approaches are appropriate to build commitment to change
Define the roles and accountabilities of leadership, so they can become effective sponsors of change and end the ‘us and them’ dichotomy
Align the activities of multiple change agents with the business case for change, and with the desired future.
